What is BYOD?

Advantages of BYOD:

  • BYOD can save your company money, as employees will not need to purchase or lease devices through the company.
  • It can improve employee productivity, as employees will be more comfortable working on devices they are familiar with.
  • BYOD can improve security for your company, as employees will be less likely to store sensitive data on personal devices.

Disadvantages to BYOD policies:

  • For example, employers may have less control over employees’ devices and apps. Additionally, there may be more potential for data breaches if employee devices are not properly secured.

  • Increased security risks: With BYOD, employees are bringing their own devices into the workplace, increasing the risk of security breaches. Personal devices may not have the same level of security protection as corporate devices, and they could be vulnerable to malware and other cyberattacks.

  • Increased support costs: Supporting a diverse range of devices can be costly and time consuming for IT staff. Different devices may require different software or firmware updates, and staff may need to be trained on using them. 

Overall, Bring Your Own Device policies can be advantageous for both employers and employees. Employees can get more work done using familiar devices, and employers can save money on hardware and software costs.
