First and foremost, be prepared to make compromises. A negotiation is a 2 way street.

That eing said, here are a few tips that worked for me.

Do your research: Understand the average salary for the position and industry you are in, and have data to back up your request for a higher salary.

Highlight your skills and experience: Show how your skills and experience make you a valuable asset to the company, and how your contributions can benefit the company financially.

Be flexible: Be open to discussing different forms of compensation, such as bonuses or stock options, in addition to salary.

Be confident: Express your interest in the position and the company, but also be clear and assertive about your salary expectations.

Be prepared to walk away: If the company is unwilling to meet your salary expectations, be prepared to consider other job offers.

Be respectful and professional in all your interactions with HR.

Be patient: Don’t rush to accept an offer if the salary is not what you are looking for, give HR the time to consider your request and come back with an answer.

Timing: It’s ideal to negotiate salary at the end of the hiring process or just before accepting the job offer.

Have a counter offer ready: If you are being offered a lower salary than you want, be prepared to counter offer with a range that is more in line with your expectations.

Listen: During negotiations, listen to HR’s perspective and try to understand the company’s budget and other constraints.
